SHIP'S ANCHOR

Upon completion of a months long overhaul in Long Beach, USS Anchorage (LSD 36) made the short trip back to her original homeport of San Diego in May 1992. In June, the ship headed north to Alaska for a week-long port visit in Anchorage. On this trip, an anchor removed during overhaul, was transported, then presented to the City of Anchorage on June 16.

The Navy League Anchorage Council #151 started working on an anchor beautification project in 2021. That project evolved into the creation of a Sea Services Memorial, which was dedicated August 16, 2023. This memorial pays tribute to USS Anchorage (LSD 36), USS Anchorage (LPD 23), US Coast Guard District 17 & Sector Western Alaska, and Navy Operating Base Dutch Harbor & Bell. *seven of these images link to a larger copy
